My initial reaction to the week three assignment was quite intriguing. I had to research via the yahoo search engine what a web based education system was because I had never heard of internet based learning phrased in such a manner. I also had a few problems connecting terms until I did a boolean search at the Walden U. Library database and then this made things a little easier. Thus, I learned more about how the computer and web based education systems have similarities and differences and how they can actually enhance one another if they are used conjunctively.

Nia,
I think that using the available technologies in tandem will enhance the learning experience for Learners. They can choose various technologies that best suit their learning style to deliver information. Good observation.
Karen
What would you say is the best enhancement of the technologies? Whenever I think of blended technologies, I sometimes find the blending works well, and at others, not so well. I almost believe that there are some technologies that are extremely compatible with one another. But my goal is to be able to identify those, and work on understanding those that don't work as elegantly.
David,
DO you think that it is the technology that does not blend well, or the way that the technology is presented?
To paraphrase Mae West, I have never met technology that I didn't like...:-)
Nia, you will find that educational technology literature and presentations have its own langauge and to be part of the profession and the culture of technology one must learn the language.
David,
I think Dr. Powley said it best, for users to integrate technology, they must be familiar with the language. But I also think one should have a goal or objective when using any technology. One must know the purpose or intent that one has selected a particular technology in the first place.
For example, as a health careers educator, one of the presenters at our summer workshop discussed how she took her nursing students to work in a medically underserved area for 1 to 2 weeks. So that class could continue for those went abroad with her along with those that stayed in the United States, she used computer based/CD ROM software to facilitate her classes. This permitted those that went to Colombia the opportunity to continue learning even those they were not in the traditional classroom.
Yes, a web based environment would have been more efficient. However, it would have needed to be pre-determined the technological capability in the country of Colombia before embarking upon such an endeavor.
Hi Guys!
I think the use of technology is like combining the ingredients of a recipe. Each product requires the combination of specific ingredients. If you combine the wrong ones in any proportion the product will be ruined. In education we have to select the appropriate technologies to combine for their compatibility and their suitability to each particular setting. Regards!

Great job of researching. You did exactly what I am trying to teach my students to do when they don't understand something. They want to quit and wait for the teacher to tell them the answer. Your solution of searching and then using the Walden database is inspiring. You are a good information user. Good job. Dianne
Dianne,
I try to make this standard practice because often times, I have learned through the years, skipping material and not getting clarity can make life quite rough down the road. The information that you thought was not important became the leading piece of information I needed to problem pose or solve to move forward or to solve the dilemma.
