Week 9 Initial Reaction

When I initially read the title of the posting, I had to review the course syllabus. Panic almost set in my heart because I thought that I was going to have to review some learning management systems or upload a lesson to one or something. I have dealt with the universal class learning content management system and I have briefly looked at module's. I know that the universal class one is pretty easy because it allows you to copy and paste your Microsoft Word documents into their windows or templates without knowing html. But it is difficult to get published according their standards if you want o publicize it to the general public. Unlike Moodle or other LCMS's they probably do not provide oversight into those using the software to see if the courses are developed appropriately.

Thus, with the threat of actually engaging a LMS or LCMS, I am little more relaxed about what was presented this week. It was more of an introduction to LMS and LCMS capabilities. I am assuming that our 12 week class is too short to actually engage in an online implementation. I wonder if Walden University would ever offer that or permit that as a dissertation where someone actually used to ADDIE model to design a course. This could be one KAM hmm...?

We are beginning to use Moodle at our institution this semester. It seems to be friendly enough. We have been given two workshops on the platform and it seems very promising. Vendors of Blackboard and WebCT for example have commercialized too much these LMSs and they are too rigid in structure to allow for more student-centered applications. Moodle on the other side is more constructivist oriented, although it can also be focused in a traditional way. Regards

Georges,

I have found that when I don't understand I have to keep searching until I get an answer and clear understanding. It's senseless for me to write on something that is unclear to me.

Karen,

I am sorry for making all the work and stuff (smile) but I did not mean for the class, it is virtually impossible to design a course in one class. At AIU it took almost all of my master's program to learn each phase of ADDIE instructional design template. So if would take several KAM's just to master this concept.

But good ideas, thanks for sharing.

Yolanda,

I hope they would not go back and change the course syllabus next quarter because of little bitty old me...gosh, would that not be something. Well, I would not want to do that to the incumbent students. I would never live that down in history (smile).

Carlos,

After the end of this semester, I am going to look into the Moodle system to see if I can upload our Christian University courses into the Moodle Learning Management System.
