Week 10 Initial Reaction
My initial reaction this week was quite challenging. I did not know a lot about this emerging technology and the only thing that kept coming to mind was a digital library. My employer markets a digital library at Phelps County Regional Medical Center for physicians that desire to have immediate access to medical information in between patients. But as I kept reading the journal articles, I quickly learned that there was more to a digital repository than just a library. It can be used in a variety of contexts to facilitate learning in conjunction with learning management and learning content management software and a whole slew of things. But again I did not grasp these conecpts until I kept reading more scholarly literature. I also looked up literature on learning object metadata because I kept seeing this pop up in the database searches along with my yahoo searches. This type of learning uses an XML file which I believe is what blogger works off of. So there is a lot to learn with this resource and it can be applied to various situations.

I think that the flexibility and ability to reuse learning objects, code them for ease of accessibility, and store them for later use makes them very appealing. I am still not completely sure I understand all of the ins and outs, but I have a good grasp...

But I do like comparing it to a library because I understand how that works. When you describe an LO as a book and you can have many books, then the storage unit as the library. It just makes it more clear. Don't you agree?

I think that it is sometimes so amazing that if we don't understand a concept that we can just type it into a library like Questia or a search engine or Ebsco and find scholarly articles. I remember before computers so I am constantly amazed at what we can do and find on the Internet. It has grown up so fast.

This makes two of us, I think that if I had more time in the class, I could gain a greater understanding and appreciation. Also, I think that I would understand it better if I was able to implement one or use it to do an activity.

I certainly agree because this was the only concept that helped me really to grasp what a repository was. I just kept thinking about Walden Universities Digital Library.
