Week 12 Final Thoughts and Initial Reaction
I have learned a great deal over the last twelve weeks. I had not ever heard of a wiki before this class and I had not ever used a wiki, blog, podcast, or many of the other emerging technologies. I also did not know what Open Source tools were or repositories. So I am certainly on information overload right now. I even learned how to use my web/video cam which was quite exciting along with learning that Microsoft had software entitled MS Producer. I certainly have grown a lot intellectually through the readings and technically through my discussion boards, chatting through MSN messenger where my peers taught me a lot, and I used the Walden University chat which was rather boring.
I also had the opportunity to use the MSN Messenger phone service which is similar to Yahoo Messenger’s Phone service that I use all the time to make international phone calls. Then I had the opportunity to learn about sharing files or document sharing to send files that were too large to send via email or to upload to the web. Thus, this has been a growing experience that challenged me mentally, physically, and my time management skills.

This has been an interesting course ... I have had the opportunity to explore new technologies, to reflect on the pedagogical implications of the technologies. The readings and additional readings have given me a larger theoretical and practical base to use.
Nia: You are so correct. Over the past 12 weeks I have really learned a lot about the new and emerging technologies. I have never used a blog before. In fact I felt a little aprehensive about any forum in which I had to share my thoughts for the world to see. Nevertheless, I found the task an interesing and soon put aside my inhibitions.
I felt the same about IMs. I did have a lot of fun though and can see how my children are addicted to it. I eventually grew to enjoy 'chatting' with my colleagues.
David,
Thanks for all of your many challenging and thought provoking comments that encouraged all of us to become better reseachers and students.
Marilyn,
We have nothing to fear but fear itself. So many parents were afraid to allow their children on the internet especially with all the media scares and new recent updates about children meeting people online or in chat rooms. But when there are built in security systems and parental knowledge about different websites and tools, one can make better informed decisions about where to block access to and other things that are age appropriate for your children.
Nia,
There certainly has been a lot of information provided this course. Though I was at least a little bit familiar with the technologies, my understanding of some of them were minimal at best. I am much better informed now.

Nia:
You are such a good discussion poster. I always love to read what you say and what references you use. I am glad that we got to be in class together. Good luck to you as you continue at Walden. Dianne
